Oradour sur Glane – Centre de la Memoire A few kilometres north of Limoges is the village of Oradour sur Glane, totally destroyed by the Nazi’s in the Second World War, 642 men, woman and children massacred by a German Panzer Division. Vulcania situated in Avergne national volcanic park – - is in the Auvergne region, in the Massif Central, well know for its dramatic mountainous scenery including the beautiful National Park of the Volcano’s, an area dotted with 80 extinct volcanic peaks. In the summer the area, largely unknown by the British is one of the greenest, prettiest and best-preserved parts of France, thickly forested and criss-crossed with rivers and lakes, with a wild, often inaccessible landscape. |

Puy-de-Dome, also in the Auvergne national park is at 1465 metres the highest of the Monts Dome range of puys, a sacred place of worship for the Celts, spectacular in every season, but most awe-inspiring with its winter mantle of snow. It is one of the most challenging climbs of the Tour de France, and you can walk or drive the spiral route to the top to be rewarded with incredible views of 70 peaks and 11 departments. |
