Just ten minutes drive from Peyrat le Chateau is Lake Vassiviere, one of the Limousin’s major holiday venues and reputed to be the largest area of inland water in France. The lake and surrounding area is an ideal location for walkers, cyclists and horse riders wishing to explore the 300 km of footpaths and bridleways. Six beaches provide safe facilities for children and bathers, whilst water sports enthusiasts can indulge in sailing, windsurfing, motorboat racing and water skiing. Ideal for fishermen, the lake is stocked with pike, sander, roach, carp and tench, that can be fished all year round. What’s more, many of the surrounding rivers and streams are stocked with trout. |

There are a number of bars and restaurants in Peyrat le Chateau, all offering good food, with the typically friendly ambiance of rural France. Le Bamboo and Pizzeria. Tel: 0033 (0)555 694014. The restaurant is situated close to the town lake and provides good take away pizzas and has an excellent menu. It also has a great French atmosphere. Hotel du Bois de l’Etang. Tel: 0033 (0)555 694019 – this French owned hotel offers simple but clean accommodation, a small bar and a large restaurant that serves exceptionally good food and wine. Hotel de France. Tel: 0033 (0)555 694875 - owned by English couple Jeremy and Jenny. The bar offers good beer and snacks and the restaurant provides really good food. It’s a great place to meet many of the locals including some English residents. Le Bellerive - hotel and bar. 0033 (0)555 692532. A small but very friendly hotel owned by an English couple, Martin and Maggie. The bar is open most evenings and provides a focal point for many of the English families living in the area. |
