The regions crystal lakes and rivers offer travellers some of the finest fishing in Europe with trout, carp, salmon, bream, dace, chub, black-bass, gudgeon, tench, rudd, pike to name but a few. The main rivers include the Dordogne, Correze, Maronne, Cere and Vezere, to the south, Diege, Creuse, Cher, Maulde and Taurion to the east, the Vienne, Gartempe and Couse in the north. |

For water sports including, sailing, water-skiing, canoeing, kayaking and windsurfing there are many lakes in Limousin, from Lake Vassiviere to St Pardoux, Bort les Orgues or the Lac du Causse, the series of dammed reservoirs along the gorges of the Creuse and Dordogne rivers. |

| The Limousin region has over 1800 km of footpaths and 350 km of bridleways, enough for the most demanding rambler. The Monts d’Ambazac, rising to around 2,500 ft. only 30 km north east of Limoges is rugged, wild, sparsely populated and a largely forested area. It provides a variety of walks from gentle strolls of around 25 km to serious walks that could span hundreds of kilometres. | ||||

Some of the most picturesque towns in the area that demand a visit include: Limoges is the Limousin’s capital, a fascinating historic city of ancient buildings, quaint old streets, museums, beautiful gardens and galleries. It’s often associated with enamels and porcelain. The town has over 200,000 inhabitants and is a major metropolis in the central-west region of France, not far from the Atlantic coast. Limoges in Roman times was a fusion of two cities that was not united until the French Revolution. |

Saint-Leonard-de-Noblat, on the banks of the Vienne river provided an important halt on the Santiago pilgrim road. The town is a jewel of medieval architecture, once protected by an outer wall with fortified gates; the old town is criss-crossed by a network of alleyways. |

Eyemoutiers, another fortress town overlooking the Vienne is equally beautiful and has some of the finest examples of medieval buildings in the region. Lake Vassiviere and the plateau of Millevaches regional park are situated close to Eyemoutiers. |
